This year 20 families will participate in our 3rd Annual CSA program. Will you help sponsor their participation?
What is CSA, and why does everyone rave about their CSA shares?
CSA, or "Community Supported Agriculture", is a program through which community members purchase shares of a local farm's harvest before the growing season. Throughout the 18 to 21-week growing season, each CSA member receives a weekly share of the local farm's harvest of fruits and vegetables (which are often picked just hours before you receive them, and packed full of nutrition). One share provides a family of four with incredibly fresh, and highly nutritious fruits and vegetables each week.
Importantly, CSA members aren't the only ones to benefit. First, CSA members play an important role in preserving the sustainability of local farming. Because CSA shares are purchased before the growing season, they provide local farmers with a revenue source during a time that farmers have traditionally incurred costs but recognized little or no revenue. Second, CSA members play an important role in preserving the environment. By buying local, you reduce the amount of fuel that would otherwise be used to ship food across the country to your table. Third, CSA shares keep dollars circulating through the local economy.
Help a Seacoast Family Food Pantry Family Enjoy a CSA Share from Wake Robin Farm!
While everyone would love a CSA share, they are out of reach for many of the low-income members of our community. But with your help, they do not have to be! In both 2015 and 2016, 20 local families received a CSA share from Wake Robin Farm through the generosity of local sponsors. The program has been a huge success, with nearly 100% weekly participation in its first two years. We hope you'll consider sponsoring a CSA share to help us continue this wonderful program! CSA sponsorships are tax deductible to the extent allowed by law (you will receive a receipt for your donation).
